Recent reports by BeritaBali, shared on Bali Discovery reported that a special Parliamentary Committee (DPRD-Bali) for Spatial Planning, Assets, and Permits (Pansus TRAP) had recommended the closure of Villa Vedas – a popular luxury villa at in Tabanan, West Bali – for a suspected zoning violation. According to the reports, the closure recommendation was issued in connection with the Villa’s seawall, deemed by some members of the legislative delegation as not complying with minimum setback limitations from the highwater mark.
Despite press reports of legislators threatening closure, in fact the Villa Vedas remains open for business. From an Island-wide perspective, issues on zoning compliance and regulated setbacks from seashores and riverbanks reflect a larger political debate now underway in Bali questioning zoning issues and the extent of the legal jurisdiction, specifically the legal role and tenure of the TRAP Legislative Sub-committee. In recent days, this polemic surrounding Pansus TRAP’s present and future role has intensified further with the GOLKAR political faction resigning its positions on the TRAP sub-committee.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Intanah Resort Management Group, the management group for Villa Vedas, stated that they are engaged in a continuing dialogue with the DPRD-Bali and that, after meeting with relevant legislators, officials are now satisfied with Villa Vedas’ compliance with current zoning and spatial rules and regulations, with the possible exception of the sea wall allegedly erected within the setback zone. Moreover, the villa’s management confirmed its full support for rectifying any issue identified by the Authorities, reconfirming its continuing commitment to the community and ensuring that access to the beach must remain open to all.
Intanah Management affirmed that it consistently coordinates with its staff and the surrounding community members through a well-articulated ESG plan (environmental, social, and governance) aimed at keeping the beach safe and clean. Underlining this commitment, the Intanah spokesperson emphasized that public access to the beach has always been maintained.
What’s more, according to the Company’s spokesperson, Villa Vedas’ management and staff have always taken pride in the fact that the magnificent sunsets off Bali’s west coast are enjoyed daily by the Resort’s staff, guests, and members of the surrounding community.
