TRIBUN-BALI reports PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, the managers of Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, together with the entire airport community, will conduct an Airport Emergency Exercise (AEE) on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.
This full-scale emergency response simulation is conducted periodically to ensure the readiness of personnel, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as well as coordination among all stakeholders in handling emergencies within the airport environment.
“Bali is one of the world’s most popular tourism destinations. As a primary gateway for tourists to the island, we are committed to consistently maintaining operational safety and security standards for both aviation and airport operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Therefore, conducting the Airport Emergency Exercise is crucial for testing and ensuring the readiness of all relevant parties to handle emergencies,” said Nugroho Jati, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.
He added that the Airport Emergency Exercise (AEE) aims to test the effectiveness of the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) Document and the emergency response procedures currently in place at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
The exercise will also enhance personnel preparedness and ensure that command, coordination, and communication functions—both between internal units and relevant agencies—operate effectively in various emergency scenarios. “For this AEE, we are conducting three exercise scenarios: a Building Fire Exercise, an Airport Security Exercise, and an Aircraft Accident Exercise. Each scenario is designed to test personnel readiness and procedural effectiveness in handling various situations—ranging from building fires and airport security breaches to simulated aircraft accident responses,” explained Nugroho Jati.
Alongside these exercises, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport urges all airport users within the airport complex to remain calm, avoid panic, and follow instructions from airport personnel if they observe drill-related activities.
The Airport Emergency Exercise (AEE) uses scenarios that mirror actual emergency conditions to identify areas for evaluation and refine established procedures.
The activity also tests coordination channels, synergy, and the readiness of the entire airport community to deliver a rapid, precise, and well-directed response in an emergency.
“Through this AEE, we aim to ensure that all personnel share a unified understanding of their respective roles and responsibilities. We hope to maintain this level of readiness so that we can guarantee the security and safety of airport users while ensuring smooth flight operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport,” stated Nugroho Jati.
The AEE is a planned, coordinated initiative designed to enhance emergency preparedness while ensuring flight operations continue as normal.
