The Meteorology, Climate, and Geophysics Agency for Denpasar, Bali (BMKG-Bali) is urging fishermen, marine tourism operators, and inter-island shipping operators on the southern, southeast, and southwest coasts of Bali, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa to be on alert and exercise caution from 23-26 July, 2026. During the period, waves as high as 1.25 to 2.5 meters in height, propelled by strong winds from the east to southeast, represent a threat to those working and living in those areas.
Quoted by NusaBali, the Head of BMKG Region III Denpasar, Cahyo Nugroho, states that surface wind patterns influence these conditions in the waters north and south of Bali. Winds generally blow from the east to the southeast at speeds of 4-30 knots.
”We need to be aware of the increase in wind speeds in the waters north and south of Bali, which could affect wave conditions,” said Cahyo on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.
Based on BMKG forecasts, waves of 1.25-2.5 meters are likely to occur in the Badung Strait, the southern Bali Strait, the southern waters of Bali Island, and the southern Lombok Strait from 23- 26 July 2026.
The BMKG warns that the resulting weather conditions could endanger navigational safety. Fishing boats are at risk if wind speeds reach 15 knots with wave heights of 1.25 meters. Meanwhile, barges begin to be at risk when wind speeds reach 16 knots and wave heights of 1.5 meters.
Cahyo is urging fishermen, ferry operators, marine tourism operators, and those involved in marine activities to continuously monitor weather updates and BMKG early warnings before sailing or engaging in any activities in the waters.
