More Details on Record Bust of Russian Drug Network Members in Bali

Further details are surfacing surrounding the arrest of three Russian nationals who were arrested in Bangli, central Bali, on Friday, 05 June 2026, following a hair-raising police pursuit in which shots were fired by police in order to subdue the fleeing criminals.

​Police seized a large stash of hashish weighing 7.8 kilograms during the arrest of Sergei Khlebushchev, 39, and his wife Kira Kochetkova, 51,  on Friday, 05 June 2026. According to police, the hashish was previously smuggled into Indonesia from Thailand via Jakarta.

​As reported by RadarBali, police began surveilling the two at Gilimanuk ferry port and tracked their 160-kilometer journey in a rented Daihatsu Raize (DK 1369 FBG) to Bangli. The arrest took place in Kayubihi Village, Bangli District, at 9:39 am.

​With the arrest, police seized the vehicle, passports, and cell phones.

​A spokesperson for the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Brigadier General Dr. Putu Putera Sadana, said police broke open the record-setting drug bust based on information from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Customs and Excise. The tip involved a suitcase containing hashish brought by a Russian passenger from Thailand, suspected of being destined for distribution in Bali.

​Teams from BNN and Indonesian Customs and Excise worked closely together. They conducted a tightly monitored, controlled delivery operation spanning 1,200 kilometers from Jakarta to Bali.

​In Bali, police saw the two unload a suitcase containing the hashish and hand it to a third man. Police then decided to reveal themselves and make an arrest. The Russians tried to flee. In the pursuit, they struck and injured several pedestrians, and police fired shots to subdue the criminals.

​Officers found 7.8 kilograms of hashish packed in a suitcase. The drugs were suspected of being distributed in Bali,” Sadana said Sunday, 07 June 2026.

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) continues investigating to uncover possible involvement by other parties in the network.

​Representatives from Customs and Excise, suspected network members in Bali. Investigators are reviewing drug entry routes from abroad, distribution patterns, and the suspects’ ties to the international drug network.
