BeritaBali, Detikcom, and a Bali Police website report that an Australian, Aaron Robert Brokenshire (36), has been arrested by the police in Bali for allegedly possessing and dealing narcotics, in the form of marijuana and synthetic tobacco.
The head of the Denpasar Police Precinct Narcotics Division, Police Commissioner I Komang Agus, said police arrested the Australian on Monday, 10 August 2026, at 7:00 pm. The police arrested Brokenshire based on information provided by the public regarding suspected narcotics activity.
Police arrested Brokenshire at his residence at the Dewi Sri Apartments on Jalan Raya Kepaon, Pemogan, South Denpasar.
After the arrest, police searched the suspect’s room and discovered 37 plastic packets containing dried leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be marijuana. The total net weight of the evidence was 36.64 grams.
According to a Police spokesperson, Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra, police seized two packets of tobacco believed to contain synthetic substances, with a net weight of 21.30 grams. In addition to the narcotics, officers found a “bong” – a pipe used for consuming marijuana and methamphetamines together with an electronic scale.
During questioning, the Australian from Mona Vale, Australia, told police he obtained the narcotics from an unidentified man in the Kuta Beach area for Rp. 2 million.
”This Australian national is suspected of storing and possessing the illicit substances for redistribution,” Officer Komang Agus told the press on Friday, 11 September 2026.
Commissioner I Komang Agus stated that Brokenshire had no prior criminal record. Police are currently holding the suspect and all seized evidence at the Denpasar City Police Headquarters for presentation during his upcoming trial. Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigations to track down other parties suspected of involvement in the narcotics trafficking.
Brokenshire is being charged under Article 111, Paragraph (1) of the Narcotics Law Number 35 of 2009, punishable by a maximum term of imprisonment of 12 years.
