Disabled Dutchman Gets 3 Years in Prison for Growing Marijuana in Bali

Beritabali has reported that a 30-year-old wheelchair-bound Dutch national, Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak, has been sentenced to 3 years’ imprisonment for cultivating a hydroponic garden of marijuana in his rented accommodation in the Village of Ubung Kaja, North Denpasar, Bali.

​As reported on 04 June 2025 by Bali Discovery in the coverage titled Disabled Dutch Marijuana Cultivator Facing 9 Years of Prison in Bali,  State Prosecutors had sought a 9-year sentence against Abdoelrazak following his arrest on 01 October 2025,

​On 23 June 2026, the Denpasar State Court’s three-judge panel, chaired by Iman Luqmanul Hakim,  showed mercy in handing down a sentence of only 3 years to the disabled defendant.

​In response to the low sentence, Public Prosecutor Lovi Pusnawan said prosecutors will take a week, as stipulated by law, to consider whether to appeal the sentence and seek a longer period of imprisonment.

​In the same matter before the Courts, the man’s Russian wife, Kseniia Varlamova, told the court she accepts a sentence of 8 months and 15 days for being an accomplice in the hydroponic marijuana garden project. Meanwhile, her husband, Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak, represented by renowned Indonesian attorney and former diplomat Todung Mulya Lubis, told the court that he accepts the three-year penalty.

​During the course of the trial, Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak attended each session in a wheelchair, complaining of pain on several occasions. Following the sentence, the Dutchman asked if his personal handphone could be returned by the Court. Responding, the Presiding Judge Luqmanul Hakim, surrendered the full right to respond to the request for return of the telephone to State Prosecutors.

​In the course of the 01 October 2025 arrest, police seized the man’s phone, marijuana seeds, a sizeable range of marijuana plants, gardening equipment, and 278 grams of marijuana.

​The Dutch national was charged under Section 610 Number One of the 2023 Criminal Code on Narcotics (KUHP).
