BBTF 2026 Record Rp. 6.9 Triliun in Transactions. Name Change Ahead?

BeritaBali reports that the Bali and Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) 2026 recorded transactions worth Rp. 6.9 trillion achieved during the 3-day international travel event held at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua in South Bali, 28-30 Mei 2026.

This sales transaction total of Rp7.6 trillion in travel fell short by 12% of the Rp7.84 trillion reported following last year’s BBTF.

This decrease in transaction value is attributed to the reduced number of participating tour operators from several European countries, who were unable to attend due to the impact of geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East.

The 2026 BBTF booked 407 tour operators (buyers) hailing from 44 countries and 286 exhibitors (sellers). This number was lower than the 2025 BBTF, when 529 buyers from 45 countries and 499 local sellers traveled to Bali.

Despite this year’s decrease in total transaction value, the Chair of the 2026 BBTF Organizing Committee, Putu Winastra, underscored that the success of this event cannot be measured solely by the nominal value of transactions.

”Amidst a competitive global tourism landscape, Bali remains the main gateway to Indonesia, while interest in destinations outside Bali continues to grow,” he said at the closing press conference of BBTF 2026 on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

According to Winastra, BBTF 2026 demonstrated three important realities: the global industry’s continued strong confidence in Bali and Indonesia, increasing interest in destinations outside Bali, and the changing buyer behavior, with travelers now more selective in choosing tourism products.

He explained that buyers are currently paying more attention to destination readiness, the professionalism of industry players, consistent service, and a clear market position as a tourist destination.

”The future of Bali tourism is not just about increasing the number of visitors, but also strengthening value creation, improving visitor quality, and maintaining long-term competitiveness,” he said.

New Name for BBTF: Bali and Nusa Tenggara Travel Fair

Winastra also announced plans to expand BBTF 2027, which is scheduled to take place from June 9 to 11, 2027. Entering its 13th year, the event is planned to transform into a new branding as the Bali and Nusa Tenggara Travel Fair, involving three provinces: Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Next year’s event will carry the theme “Bali and Beyond: Regenerative Travel Elevated,” emphasizing the concept and development of regenerative tourism.

Explaining the name change, Winastra explained: “This theme is a natural evolution of discussions held this year. While BBTF 2026 highlighted gastronomy, culture, and sustainable heritage, BBTF 2027 will go further by focusing on how tourism can catalyze long-term destination resilience, community prosperity, and sustainable economic growth,” he said.

The regenerative tourism concept focuses not only on reducing the negative impacts of tourism but also on creating measurable positive impacts for local communities, cultural preservation, environmental protection, and increasing inclusive economic opportunities.

Meanwhile, Bali Governor Wayan Koster revealed that although the number of tourists visiting Bali decreased by around 7 percent in May 2026 due to the conflict in the Middle East, regional tax revenue from the tourism sector has actually increased.

”As of May 27, 2025, the Hotel and Restaurant Tax (PHR) reached Tp. 2.89 trillion, an increase compared to the same period last year of Rp. 2.62 trillion,” he said.

The data show that, despite the decline in tourist numbers, the counterintuitive increase in tax revenues from tourists is generally attributed to quality tourists staying in accommodation and star-rated hotels, which enjoy higher occupancy rates.

Governor Koster expressed his appreciation for the successful implementation of BBTF 2026, which brought together 407 tour operators from 44 countries and 286 exhibitors.

”Going forward, I will encourage BBTF to expand its scope. I therefore propose that in 2027, the name be reviewed as ‘Bali Nusa Travel Fair,’  so we can collaborate to reach NTB and NTT as well,” Koster  suggested.

”The future of Bali tourism is not just about increasing the number of visitors, but also strengthening value creation, improving visitor quality, and maintaining long-term competitiveness,” the Governor said.

On that occasion, Winastra also announced plans to hold BBTF 2027, scheduled for June 9 to 11, 2027. Entering its 13th year, the event is planned to transform into the Bali and Nusa Tenggara Travel Fair, involving three provinces: Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Next year’s event will carry the theme “Bali and Beyond: Regenerative Travel Elevated,” which will emphasize the development of regenerative tourism.

”This theme is a natural evolution of our discussions this year. While BBTF 2026 highlighted gastronomy, culture, and sustainable heritage, BBTF 2027 will go further by focusing on how tourism can catalyze long-term destination resilience, community prosperity, and sustainable economic growth,” he said.
