As reported by NusaBali and Tribun-Bali, an intensive search for a missing Russian tourist has ended with the tragic discovery on Saturday, 26 September 2026, of the body of G. Artem (40) nestled in the rocks at the base of Uluwatu’s limestone cliffs. The Russian’s body was located by Search and Rescue Workers (SAR) after a coordinated search in South Bali in the area surrounding where the man’s abandoned parked motorcycle and helmet were found at Tanjung Mebulu, Pecatu Village, on Saturday morning.
Confronted by a 70-meter vertical cliff face that ends at jagged boulders bordering the violent waves crashing the shoreline of the Indian Ocean, Search and Rescue Workers were compelled to undertake a challenging intensive search for the missing Russian as they worked in close cooperation with local volunteers from Pecatu Village, the Indonesian Water Police (Polair), and officers from the local police precinct. A search over a wide area began at 10:00 am on Saturday, including the deployment of sophisticated thermal drones that swept the beach and cliff line for signs of life.

Later, at approximately 1:10 pm, following up reports from locals of a foul smell emanating from the beach near Nyang-Nyang Beach, the drones were redeployed. They discovered the man’s lifeless body among the rocks at the foot of the beach. Forced to wait until low tide, the body was eventually evacuated over the steep, rocky terrain under constant battering from large sea waves.
Wahyu Sidhiarta, Field Coordinator for the Denpasar Search and Rescue Team, confirmed that the evacuation of the body, later identified as the Russian, G. Artem, faced numerous challenges. “The obstacles the SAR Team faced in evacuating the victim included, firstly, the high tide, requiring us to wait for the water to recede. Secondly, the terrain was steep and rocky,” revealed Wahyu in an official statement issued late on Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after 3:00 pm, Artem’s body was raised to the cliff top at Nyang-Nyang Beach and transported by Nusa Medika Clinic Ambulance to the Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for further disposition.
Participating in the massive search effort were personnel from the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, Denpasar Water and Air Police (Polair), Bali Regional Water and Airborne Police (Polairud), Babinsa (Village Supervisory Non-Commissioned Officers), a SAR dog unit (K-9 Police), local *pecalang* (traditional neighborhood watch officers), Pecatu Civil Defense Members (Linmas), ORARI Bali (amateur radio teams), local community leaders (Pecatu Village Leaders *Kepala Lingkungan* and *Kelian*) and local village volunteers.
