Realized tourism investment increased by Rp 73.56 trillion in 2025. New investment remains concentrated in Bali and Jakarta and is reportedly dominated by the amenities sector.

NusaBali reports that investment in Indonesia’s tourism sector rose from Rp 47.14 trillion in 2024 to Rp 73.56 trillion in 2025. This represents a 56.05 percent increase and demonstrates growth in tourism sector investment, although achieving an even distribution across various destinations nationwide remains a concrete challenge.

Indonesian Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that tourism investment remains heavily concentrated in Bali and Jakarta and is directed toward the amenities sector. This has prompted the government to expand investment to other tourism destinations, focusing on areas with tourism development potential.

”Investment is still largely concentrated in Bali and Jakarta, as well as in the amenities sector. Therefore, we are encouraging more evenly distributed investment across various destinations—including the 13 Priority and Regenerative Tourism Destinations and Tourism Special Economic Zones (KEK)—while also expanding investment in tourism attractions,” said Widiyanti on Thursday, 08 October 2026.

According to Widiyanti, expanding investment requires more than only building accommodation facilities. Developing tourism attractions is also essential to ensure destinations have strong appeal, promote longer stays, and create new business opportunities for local communities.

Efforts to ensure a more equitable distribution of investment were discussed during the Monthly Economic Diplomatic Breakfast held with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in September 2026. This forum brought together the government, business players, and the diplomatic corps to discuss investment opportunities and the development of Indonesia’s tourism sector.

Meanwhile, domestic and international tourism activities continue to grow. Foreign tourist arrivals reached 10.58 million between January and August 2026, a 5.38 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year. During the same period, domestic tourist trips totaled 842.15 million, up 4.29 percent.

Economic opportunities are also represented in the hosting of regional events. Through the *Karisma Event Nusantara* 2026 program, 78 events—whose impacts were assessed—recorded 9.97 million visitors and direct economic transactions amounting to Rp 888.52 billion. These activities involved 19,866 MSMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) and 120,642 artists, while also creating jobs for 58,077 workers.

Growth in investment, tourist arrivals, and event-related transactions creates opportunities to develop the tourism sector. The next challenge is ensuring investment is not concentrated solely in established destinations but also strengthens attractions, creates business opportunities, and expands economic benefits for communities across regions of the Nation.
