NusaBali reports that Indian travelers, the third-largest source of Bali visitors, declined during the first seven months (January – July) of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.
Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan, Head of the Bali Provincial Central Statistics Agency (BPS-Bali), shared an official statistical release showing that a cumulative total of 317,680 Indian visitors were recorded from January to July 2026. This figure represents an 8.14 percent decrease compared to January–July 2025.
In July 2026, India ranked third among source countries of foreign tourists arriving directly in Bali, trailing only after Australia and China. In July 2026, a total of 39,624 Indians visited Bali, representing about 5.68 percent of the total 697,809 foreign tourist visits to Bali that month. Compared to June, which saw 55,586 Indian visitors, the number of Indian tourists in July fell by 28.72 percent.
The decline in the Indian market was already evident starting in June 2026. Year on year, visits by Indian tourists that month dropped by 5.81 percent compared to June 2025.
Officials are now closely monitoring the performance of the Indian inbound market to determine whether the downturn in visitors from the Asian subcontinent will continue or worsen.
”India remains one of the countries contributing a significant number of visitors to Bali,” Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan remarked. According to BPS data, Indian tourist visits totaled 569,261 for all of 2025, representing 8.19 percent of the 6,948,754 total direct foreign tourist visits to Bali. In 2025, India was the second-largest source market for Bali arrivals after Australia.
Tourist traffic from India does not always follow a uniform pattern from month to month. In May 2025, for instance, visitor numbers reached 67,995—a 36.93% increase from April. At the time, BPS noted that this rise coincided with India’s wedding season, which drove travel to Bali for both honeymoons and vacations.
From January to March 2026, visits by Indian tourists totaled 116,943, a slight decline of 0.25 percent compared to the same period in 2025. Through July, India ranked behind China, which recorded 344,149 visits—reflecting year-on-year growth of 6.15 percent. Overall, total direct foreign tourist arrivals in Bali from January to July 2026 reached 3,900,965, down 1.98 percent.
While the Indian market remains a major contributor to Bali’s tourism sector, its performance in 2026 has been quite volatile. Travel patterns—including the timing of wedding and honeymoon seasons—as well as flight connectivity are key factors to consider when analyzing trends in the Indian tourist market.
This volatility was demonstrated when arrivals by Indian nationals via Bali’s Airport increased in September 2026. The average daily arrival of Indian nationals in September reached some 1,415 people. This figure was up from the August 2026 average of 1,162 people per day.
Ferry Tri Ardhiansyah, Head of the Immigration Information and Communication Technology Division at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, said the increase was evident in crossing data from August to September 2026.
”There was an upward trend in the arrival of Indian nationals via Ngurah Rai Airport during the August–September 2026 period. The average number of arrivals in September was around 1,415 people, compared to 1,162 people in August,” said Ferry on Monday, 21 September 2026.
Declining Trend in Indian Visitors to Bali Persists
Continuing the decline in Indian arrivals from January to July 2026, Indian arrivals fell by 8.14 percent cumulatively.
Although the average daily arrival rate rose in September, the total number of Indian nationals arriving during August–September 2026 remained lower than in the same period in 2025.
Crossing data shows that 84,537 Indian nationals arrived in Bali via Ngurah Rai Airport during August–September 2025. Meanwhile, during the same period in 2026—based on data updated as of September 17—60,087 Indian nationals arrived in Bali. Consequently, Indian national arrivals during those two months fell by about 24,450 compared with the same period the previous year.
In August 2026, the top three countries for foreign arrivals were Australia (165,841 people), China (59,793 people), and France (42,896 people).
Entering September 2026, based on data up to September 17, Australia remained in the top spot with 92,200 people. India rose to second place with 24,063 people, followed by China with 23,625 people.
“While Indian nationals did not rank in the top three for arrivals in August, by mid-September, India had moved into second place in terms of the number of foreign nationals entering via Ngurah Rai Airport,” he added.
