
Kompas reports that one death has been reported following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake on Saturday morning, 15 August 2026, with an epicenter in Nagekeo Regency, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara.
Berton SP Panjaitan, Acting Head of the BNPB (National Disaster Management Agency), announced: “Based on data updates and field validation as of 08:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), one fatality and four injuries have been recorded.”

The deceased and four injured were residents of the Sikka and Nagekeo Regencies on Flores Island. East Nusa Tenggara.
The BNPB, together with the Nagekeo Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and relevant stakeholders, is coordinating efforts to assist victims and ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas. In Nagekeo Regency, the earthquake was felt strongly for approximately one minute. Most residents felt the shaking and rushed out of their homes. The Nagekeo Regency BPBD subsequently coordinated with relevant agencies following a tsunami early warning.
Tremors from the earthquake were felt as fare away as Lombok Island.
The epicenter of the 15 August 2026 earthquake is 800 kilometers east of the Island of Bali.


Residents in coastal areas were also evacuated to safer locations.
BMKG reported that the quake occurred on Saturday, 15 August 2026, 2026) at 04:58:24 WIB. The epicenter was located at coordinates 8.41° South Latitude and 121.39° East Longitude. The focal depth was 15 km, classifying the earthquake as shallow.
