Earlier, a tourist raised the alarm with I Komang Wijaya Astika Putra, a Kelingking Beach Lifeguard, saying a foreign national had become stuck on the cliffside south of the beach. Upon receiving this information, the lifeguard checked the location and confirmed the victim’s presence. He then contacted others to request assistance. However, while efforts were underway to help the fallen tourists, Lani fell further down to the rocky shoreline.

Cakra Negara, Coordinator of the Nusa Penida Alert Unit, stated that according to information from the scene, the victim had attempted to find a way down on her own while stuck on the cliff before slipping and falling into the ravine.

Cakra said that after receiving orders from his superiors, a rescue team was dispatched to the location, where they coordinated with other Search and Rescue Workers (SAR) to conduct the rescue operation. The initial plan was to evacuate via the seaside; however, this was canceled because high waves were pounding the shoreline at the time. The team subsequently carried out the evacuation by land using the Kelingking Beach stairway.

Nusa Penida Precinct Police Chief, Commissioner (Kompol) I Ketut Kesuma Jaya, stated that police personnel, along with workers from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and residents, immediately descended on the scene. The evacuation was carried out with great care because of the cliff’s steep, rugged terrain. “Upon receiving the information, personnel—alongside Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency) and residents—immediately headed to the site. The cliff terrain required great caution to ensure the evacuation was carried out safely and effectively,” said Officer Kesuma Jaya.

Upon arrival, the joint team found Lani’s lifeless body lying on the beach. The victim was placed in a body bag and transported on a stretcher. Team members took turns carrying the stretcher up the steps from the Kelingking shoreline to the top of the cliff.

The evacuation process took approximately 1.5 hours. The narrow, uphill path required the team to exercise extreme care while transporting the stretcher to the top. Police Chief Kesuma Jaya added that the victim had sustained multiple fractures.

The victim was subsequently taken to Griya Penida Clinic in Banjar Nyuh, Ped Village.
