NusaBali<\/em> reports that the continuation of the seawall construction in the area of \u200b\u200bPura Luhur Uluwatu (Uluwatu Temple), Pecatu Village, South Kuta, will definitely not take place this year. The project, previously scheduled to continue in 2026, failed during the tender process because the bidders did not meet the established requirements.<\/p>\n

\u200bAnak Agung Rama Putra, Head of the Water Resources Division at the Badung Regency Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR),<\/em> confirmed the situation. He stated that the Badung Regency Government<\/em> remains committed to addressing the cliff stability issues in the Uluwatu area; however, implementation must await the next budget cycle.<\/p>\n

\u200b”The Regent is committed to continuing this work. However, it cannot be carried out this year,” he said on Wednesday, 02 September 2026.<\/p>\n

\u200bAccording to the Official Badung Regency LPSE (Electronic Procurement Service)<\/em> website, the project was tendered under the title: “Breakwater Construction \u2013 Capital Expenditure for River\/Coastal Protection Structures and Natural Disaster Mitigation \u2013 Remediation of Cracked Cliffs at Uluwatu Temple, South Kuta District.”<\/em> The planned work includes the addition and arrangement of tetrapods, the application of shotcrete to the cliff face, and the continuation of revetment construction.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe official, familiarly known as Gung Rama<\/em>, stated that the tender for the project would likely only be reopened in 2028, as the process of drafting the 2027 budget ceiling is already underway.<\/p>\n

\u200b”The input phase is already complete. After all, the 2027 budget is designed in September 2026 for its ratification,” he explained.<\/p>\n

\"Confusion<\/p>\n

\u200bHe added that the continued work would focus on reducing the impact of waves hitting the cliff. The remediation is planned to extend from the endpoint of the previous seawall construction toward Pura Batu Metandal.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u200b”From the endpoint of the previous seawall to Pura Batu Metandal, the distance is around 700 meters,” said Gung Rama. Separately, Made Sumerta, a Badung Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) member<\/em> representing Pecatu, stated that he had received information regarding the tender process for the seawall construction project.<\/p>\n

\u200bHe hopes the matter can be clarified through a joint evaluation. This would ensure that plans for the project’s continuation become clearer and remain aligned with the original design.<\/p>\n

\u200b”An explanation is needed regarding whether the tender actually failed or if there were other reasons involved, as well as what the next steps will be,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u200bAccording to Sumerta, an evaluation is crucial to determine the course of action if the construction cannot be completed this year, particularly regarding the previously allocated budget for the project. He indicated that he would raise the issue during working meetings or coordination meetings with the relevant parties.<\/p>\n
