Key players in the global Internet community will gather in Bali, Indonesia, 17-22 October 2026, to discuss the future course of the Internet’s Unique Identifier Systems at the 87th Public Meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u200bThe Indonesian Internet domain registry organization (Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia – PANDI)<\/em> will serve as the national host for the ICANN87 Annual General Meeting (AGM),<\/em> to be held at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC).<\/em><\/p>\n

\u200bICANN87<\/em> will be the first ICANN Public Meeting<\/em> held in Indonesia. The meeting will bring together participants from around the world to discuss and advance the community’s work on policies and technical coordination that support a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. Bali, a well-established international conference destination, was again selected as the location for major global events, such as the 2022 G20 Summit<\/em> and the 2024 High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships.<\/em><\/p>\n

ICANN87<\/em> will be the first ICANN Public Meeting<\/em> following the close of the New Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD) Program<\/em>:<\/p>\n

\u200b2026 Round Application Submission Window<\/strong><\/p>\n

The window closed on 12 August, with more than 1,600 primary applications received.<\/p>\n

\u200bFollowing an administrative review, ICANN<\/em> will publish the public-facing portions of applications<\/em> as well as the applied-for strings on what is called \u201cReveal Day.<\/em>\u201d ICANN87<\/em> will provide an important opportunity for the community to discuss the 2026 Round and the program’s next stages.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe Review of Reviews Cross Community Group<\/em> also has reached a milestone in its work to recommend improvements to ICANN’s review processes<\/em>. Its recommendations are intended further to strengthen ICANN’s accountability, transparency, and effectiveness.<\/p>\n

\u200bOther key topics expected to be discussed at ICANN<\/em> include Domain Name System (DNS) Abuse<\/em>, continuing discussions on enabling a multilingual Internet, and how to translate policy outcomes into effective implementation.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe annual Dr. Tarek Kamel Award for Capacity Building<\/em> recognizes ICANN87<\/em> community members<\/em> who have made significant contributions to developing capacity in areas related to ICANN’s mission<\/em>. The 2026 recipient will receive the award and be recognized at the ICANN87 Welcome Ceremony.<\/em><\/p>\n
