Bali\u2019s wedding industry is a major component of the Island\u2019s tourism industry, driving economic activity across various sectors. Veronika Ika Prawasti, Chairperson of the Bali Wedding Association (BWA),<\/em> said that, on average, a single wedding organizer (WO<\/em>) company handles between 40 and 50 weddings per year.<\/p>\n

Veronika shared this information during the inauguration of the Bali Wedding Association\u2019s Board Members<\/em> on Wednesday, 12 August 2026. She noted that while capacities vary among WO companies<\/em>, surveys indicate that BWA <\/em>members handle an average of 40\u201350 weddings annually. “On average, each of our member companies handles roughly 40 to 50 weddings every year,” Veronika said.<\/p>\n

Currently, the BWA<\/em> has 122 members. Based on Veronika\u2019s stated average, BWA members<\/em> can handle between 2,500 and 3,000 weddings per year. This figure accounts only for association members, while a significant number of wedding organizers remain outside the BWA<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Veronika explained that the BWA<\/em> serves not only as a platform for business operators but also strives to uphold the quality of Bali\u2019s wedding industry. Prospective members must undergo a verification process that includes checks on the company’s legal status and references. “Our function is to act as an umbrella organization that protects and supports our members,” she said.<\/p>\n

The high volume of wedding activity also generates economic impact across numerous supporting sectors. Beyond wedding organizers and venues, the execution of weddings involves a wide range of vendors and freelancers\u2014covering everything from decorations, catering, documentation, and makeup artistry to other ancillary services. This landscape creates opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).<\/p>\n

Bali\u2019s wedding market draws clients from diverse nations. Key markets include Australia, Singapore, the United States, South Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and China, as well as various European countries. Australia, the United States, and Singapore are identified as significant markets. India is also a key market, even though a portion of its wedding consumers are expatriate Indians living outside the subcontinent.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Indonesian domestic wedding market continues to grow. Couples from major Indonesian cities are increasingly opting for intimate wedding concepts with limited guest lists, choosing Bali as their venue. “Young people today prefer intimate weddings,” said Veronika.<\/p>\n

In terms of cost, a wedding depends heavily on the venue and event concept. Veronika estimates the average total cost ranges from IDR 200 million to IDR 300 million. For specific venues utilizing a “buyout” concept\u2014where an entire property is reserved exclusively\u2014the cost can amount to billions of rupiah.<\/p>\n

This immense potential has intensified competition within the wedding industry. Bali faces competition not only from other local wedding planners but also from rival wedding destinations such as Vietnam and Thailand.<\/p>\n

According to Veronika, Bali possesses distinct advantages\u2014including its culture, local hospitality, and tourism attractions\u2014that offer added value for couples hosting their weddings on the Island. “If a business wants to grow, what does that mean? It means expanding the market,” she stated.<\/p>\n

Consequently, she insists that strengthening the capabilities of industry players and educating them on market characteristics are crucial steps for Bali\u2019s wedding industry to maintain its competitiveness in the international market.<\/p>\n
