{"id":663,"date":"2026-08-10T06:37:29","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T06:37:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wlbrs-catalog.ru\/?p=663"},"modified":"2026-08-10T06:37:29","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T06:37:33","slug":"bali-will-miss-the-mrt-all-aboard-the-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wlbrs-catalog.ru\/?p=663","title":{"rendered":"Bali Will Miss the MRT, All Aboard the ART!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/bali-will-miss-the-mrt-all-aboard-the-art-4d61cdc.jpg\" alt=\"Bali Will Miss the MRT, All Aboard the ART!\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>MRT<\/em> Scrapped; Bali Opts for <em>ART Electric Tram<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u200bNusaBali<\/em> reports that the <em>Bali Provincial Government <\/em>has announced it will abandon plans to construct a <em>Mass Rapid Transport System (MRT) <\/em>and is now focusing on pursuing an <em>Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) system.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bPreliminary plans call for the <em>ART<\/em> to connect Bali\u2019s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to the Canggu tourism area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bBali\u2019s Governor Wayan Koster said plans for a <em>Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) System <\/em>have been abandoned in favor of an <em>Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) <\/em>system\u2014an <em>autonomous electric tram<\/em>.\u00a0 Koster stated that the change was made because <em>ART<\/em> is considered more efficient and technologically easier to implement than <em>MRT.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bQuestioned by the press on Thursday, 07 August 2026, during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the<em> Bali Regional Board of the Indonesian Exporters Association (GPEI),<\/em> Governor Koster succinctly stated that the <em>MRT System<\/em> is off the table, with an <em>ART System<\/em> now being pursued as the solution to Bali\u2019s need for mass rail transport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bAccording to Koster, the choice of <em>ART<\/em> was based on various technical considerations and the efficiency of project implementation. &#8220;Yes, because it is far more efficient and technologically easier,&#8221; the Governor explained. Koster also sought to deny misconceptions that the much-discussed <em>MRT project<\/em> had already entered the construction phase. The Governor said that, to date, no physical construction of the project has taken place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b\u201cThere hasn&#8217;t been any construction yet,&#8221; Koster asserted. Instead, the <em>Bali Provincial Government<\/em> has begun preparing the initial legal framework toward realizing the <em>ART project<\/em>. One of the regulations currently being drafted is a <em>Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub)<\/em> regarding the utilization of underground space.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/bali-will-miss-the-mrt-all-aboard-the-art-b9c6f76.jpg\" alt=\"Bali Will Miss the MRT, All Aboard the ART!\" \/><\/p>\n<p>MRT    <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/bali-will-miss-the-mrt-all-aboard-the-art-a07893b.jpg\" alt=\"Bali Will Miss the MRT, All Aboard the ART!\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ART     <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bAccording to Koster, this regulation is urgently needed because the use of underground space is not yet contemplated in any existing spatial planning regulation. &#8220;A regulation on underground space utilization is being created. A Governor&#8217;s Regulation is being drafted because it isn&#8217;t covered in the spatial planning rules yet,&#8221; Koster said. Once the regulation is finalized, the government targets the commencement of <em>ART<\/em> construction in 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b&#8221;ART construction starts in 2027. But first, the Governor&#8217;s Regulation needs to be processed,&#8221; Koster said.
