{"id":657,"date":"2026-08-09T14:46:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T14:46:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wlbrs-catalog.ru\/?p=657"},"modified":"2026-08-09T14:46:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T14:46:15","slug":"exciting-urban-renewal-underway-in-central-denpasar-bali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wlbrs-catalog.ru\/?p=657","title":{"rendered":"Exciting Urban Renewal Underway in Central Denpasar, Bali"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/exciting-urban-renewal-underway-in-central-denpasar-bali-5d2d7f2.jpg\" alt=\"Exciting Urban Renewal Underway in Central Denpasar, Bali\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>RadarBali<\/em> reports that the <em>Denpasar City Governmen<\/em>t has officially launched a significant redevelopment program to revitalize the city center of Bali\u2019s Provincial Capital \u2014otherwise officially known as the<em> &#8220;kilometer zero&#8221; <\/em>&#8211; for the 2026 fiscal year. This ambitious urban renewal program will revamp the city&#8217;s appearance, upgrade public facilities, revitalize the local economy, and enhance the City\u2019s heritage tourism ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bWork on the <em>Denpasar City Center Redevelopment Project (DCCRP)<\/em> commenced on 08 July 2026, with construction targeted for completion by 18 December 2026. <em>The Denpasar City Government<\/em> has allocated a total budget of Rp 79.5 billion from the <em>2026 regional budget (APBD)<\/em> for the<em> DCCRP.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/exciting-urban-renewal-underway-in-central-denpasar-bali-22f0fcc.jpg\" alt=\"Exciting Urban Renewal Underway in Central Denpasar, Bali\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/exciting-urban-renewal-underway-in-central-denpasar-bali-8400a2e.jpg\" alt=\"Exciting Urban Renewal Underway in Central Denpasar, Bali\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bThe project will integrate a renewal of the government office building district, the trade and services hub, and the <em>\u201cold city\u201d heritage area.<\/em> Because Denpasar is also focusing on addressing waste management issues, the beautification work will be carried out in stages through 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<strong>Denpasar Heritage Area Beautification<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, the beautification of the heritage area covers several main street sections:<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<strong>Simpang Suci \u2013 Jalan Hasanuddin \u2013 Puri Pemecutan Intersection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Redevelopment of these areas will focus primarily on the sidewalks, by widening pedestrian paths. Overhead internet and power cables will be relocated to underground conduits (ducting) or consolidated into single cable lines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bAdditionally, city lighting will be enhanced with ethnically styled lampposts, and public facilities will feature additional Balinese decorative elements. Shopfront facades will be standardized by regulating signage and billboards and harmonizing building colors, without altering the original structures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<strong>Jalan Thamrin \u2013 Simpang Sutomo \u2013 Jalan Wahidin \u2013 Gajah Mada Intersection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The redevelopment concept for these areas will employ measures similar to those used for the Simpang Suci to Puri Pemecutan route (see above).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<strong>Jalan Gajah Mada \u2013 Catur Muka Area \u2013 Jalan Sulawesi &amp; Jalan Sumatra<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Redevelopment efforts will continue from Jalan Gajah Mada toward the <em>Catur Muka statue area<\/em>. Specifically for Jalan Sumatra, the initial phase of work focuses on improving the quality of the road&#8217;s asphalt surface. As part of the sidewalk renovation, all existing ceramic paving will be removed and replaced with<em> andesite stone<\/em>, similar to the pedestrian walkways in the Sanur area. The sidewalk height will also be adjusted to 10 centimeters above the newly raised road surface.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bThese measures aim to create a more spacious, pedestrian-friendly public area without disrupting traditional commercial activities. In addition to the sidewalk improvements, drainage systems beneath the road and sidewalk are being upgraded to prevent water pooling and flooding during heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<strong>Charlie Chaplin Statue on Jalan Veteran<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The revitalization of Denpasar\u2019s city center also extends to the Jalan Veteran area, home to the historic Inna<em> Bali Heritage Hotel (Bali Hotel).<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bBali\u2019s first hotel, the <em>Bali Hotel, <\/em>opened in 1927 under the management of the<em> Dutch East Indies Cruise Line KPM<\/em> (Koninklijke Paketvaart Maatschappij). Still in operation today and managed by Injourney Hospitality, the Inna Bali Heritage Hotel has hosted famous island visitors over the past century, including Charlie Chaplin. Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, and Robert Kennedy &#8211; to name but a few.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bThe legendary British comedian famously stayed at the <em>Bali Hotel<\/em> in 1932, occupying room number 77.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bAs part of the Jalan Veteran improvements, the <em>Denpasar City Government <\/em>plans to erect a statue of Charlie Chaplin in front of the <em>Bali Hotel. <\/em>Officials hope that the statue will serve as a visitor attraction and a photo spot for the public, while also underlining the unique history of Bali&#8217;s oldest hotel.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/exciting-urban-renewal-underway-in-central-denpasar-bali-8b83d4a.jpg\" alt=\"Exciting Urban Renewal Underway in Central Denpasar, Bali\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/exciting-urban-renewal-underway-in-central-denpasar-bali-2cc0960.jpg\" alt=\"Exciting Urban Renewal Underway in Central Denpasar, Bali\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Catur Muka Intersection     <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<strong>Restoration of the Ida Cokorda Pemecutan IX Monument and Bale Kulkul<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As another key component of Denpasar\u2019s heritage area revitalization along Jalan Hasanuddin, the Denpasar City Government is also preparing to revamp the area surrounding the<em> Ida Cokorda Pemecutan IX Monument <\/em>and the <em>Pemecutan *Bale Kulkul* (traditional signal tower).<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u200b<\/em>The monument depicting I Gusti Ngurah Agung Pemecutan\u2014also known as Ida Tjokorda Pemecutan IX\u2014shows the King of Puri Pemecutan being carried on a palanquin by four warriors; this statue commemorates the King\u2019s heroic death during the Puputan Badung War on 20 September 1906.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bIn revitalizing the statue, the Denpasar City Government is collaborating with two Balinese artists &#8211; Komang Gede Sentana Putra (Kedux) and Marmar Herayukti. The redevelopment of the <em>Ida Cokorda Pemecutan IX Monument<\/em> area includes:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u200b<em>Pedestal &amp; Statue Arrangement:<\/em> Plans are to lower the statue&#8217;s pedestal by approximately 2.5 meters to ensure it appears more aesthetically proportional to its surrounding environment. The statue&#8217;s base will also be refined and improved to enhance artistic detail.<\/li>\n<li><em>Lighting &amp; Historical Plaque<\/em>: The lighting system will be reconfigured to enhance the monument&#8217;s nighttime appearance.<\/li>\n<li>A <em>*Kusuma Bangsa* (National Hero Plaque) <\/em>will also be added to the area to underscore and explain the figure&#8217;s historical significance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Revitalization of *Bale Kulkul* &amp; Historical Reliefs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>*Bale Kulkul* area <\/em>will be redesigned to feature replicas of the Pemecutan Fortress walls, a <em>*Candi Bentar*<\/em> (split gateway), and historical inscriptions, and an integrated pedestrian walkway..
