Kompas.com<\/em> reports that the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes RI)<\/em> has recorded 23 cases of Hantavirus<\/em> in Indonesia from 2024 to 2026.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe Head of the Ministry of Health’s Communication and Public Information Bureau<\/em>, Aji Muhawarman, said that of the total 23 cases, three patients have died. The resulting case fatality rate (CFR)<\/em> for Hantavirus<\/em> is 13 percent.<\/p>\n

\u200bBased on Ministry of Health<\/em> data, of the 251 suspected cases examined, 23 were declared positive. Of these, 20 patients were declared cured, while three others died. The 23 cases confirmed in Indonesia between 2024 and 2025 were spread across 9 provinces.<\/p>\n

\u200bA closer examination of the Hantavirus<\/em> case progression in Indonesia reveals a significant increase in 2025, when 17 cases were confirmed. In 2024, one case was recorded; to date, in 2026, five cases have been discovered.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200bThe Indonesian House of Representatives<\/em> is calling on the government to be more vigilant in detecting new cases of Hantavirus across all regions of Indonesia.  Although the total number of Hantaviru<\/em>s cases is not large, the 13 percent fatality rate is a genuine concern.<\/p>\n

\u200bHantavirus<\/em> is a zoonotic disease<\/em> closely linked to environmental sanitation and exposure to infected rodents.<\/p>\n

Densely populated environmental conditions, poor waste management, and suboptimal sanitation can increase the risk of disease spread.<\/p>\n

\u200bIndonesian legislators are calling for heightened supervision at airports and seaports to prevent the spread of Hantavirus.<\/em> The government is also asked to prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs)<\/em> for handling Hantavirus<\/em> at all Indonesian health facilities.<\/p>\n

\u200bIndonesia\u2019s Minister of Health<\/em>. Budi Gunadi Sadikin is coordinating with the World Health Organization (WHO)<\/em> after learning about the spread of Hantavirus<\/em> on a cruise ship sailing in Argentina. The Ministry of Health<\/em> is seeking guidance from the WHO<\/em> on the handling and early detection of the virus.<\/p>\n

\u200bAcknowledging that Hantavirus<\/em> poses a serious public health threat, Indonesia is preparing for general screening, either by undertaking rapid testing as was done during the COVID-19 pandemic<\/em> or by using PCR (polymerase chain reaction)<\/em> reagents.<\/p>\n

\u200bHANTAVIRUS IN BALI<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u200bWhile no case of Hantavirus<\/em> has been confirmed in Bali as of 09 May 2026, the Bali Provincial Health Agency (Dinkes)<\/em> is on the lookout for any suspected case of the disease appearing at any of the Island\u2019s seaports or the Ngurah Rai International Airport<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u200bQuoted by Balipost.com<\/em>, <\/em>the Head of Disease Prevention and Control of Bali,<\/em> I Gusti Ayi Raka Susanti, confirmed that the Island is in an \u201calert\u201d status<\/em> despite having recorded no confirmed cases of the virus.<\/p>\n

\u200bSusanti said health screening and surveillance are being conducted by public health workers at all ports and in every regency, including Denpasar. Diskes<\/em> is coordinating controls at all ports in Bali with the Quarantine Officials of BBKK<\/em> and KKP.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u200bIn discussing Hantavirus,<\/em> Susanti said the disease is known to be spread by rodents, primarily via rat-contaminated urine, fecal droppings, and saliva. Symptoms of Hantavirus<\/em> include fever, aching muscles, and respiratory difficulties.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe public is therefore reminded to pay attention to environmental hygiene and to avoid contact with rodents.<\/p>\n
