\u200bAmankila Resort <\/em>to Suspend Operations for 3 Months; Karangasem Risks Losing IDR 6 Billion in Local Revenue<\/p>\n \u200bRadarBali <\/em>reports that local tax revenues for the Regency of Karangasem in East Bali will suffer an estimated shortfall of Rp 6 billion during a planned three-month closure of the Amankila Resort <\/em>– one of Bali\u2019s leading luxury seaside resorts situated in the subdistrict of Manggos.<\/p>\n \u200bThe projected shortfall in tourism tax revenues was tabled during a working visit by Special Committee I (Pansus I) <\/em>of the Karangasem Regional House of Representatives (DPRD)<\/em> to Amankila Resort <\/em>on Tuesday, 13 October 2026. The Parliamentary delegation, led by Deputy Chair of Special Committee I,<\/em> I Made Ruspita, met with the Resort\u2019s management.<\/p>\n \u200b<\/em>The delegation was accompanied by the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD<\/em>) and the Regency\u2019s Tourism Office<\/em>. The delegation traveled to The Amankila <\/em>to seek input on ways to boost additional revenue from the Karangasem Regency\u2019s hotel and restaurant sector.<\/p>\n \u200bI Made Ruspita, Deputy Chair of Special Committee I,<\/em> noted that the Amankila Resort<\/em> has consistently been the largest contributor of tax revenues from the hotel and restaurant sector in Karangasem. “Amankila\u2019s contribution to local revenue ranges from Rp 1 to 2 billion per month,” Ruspita stated.<\/p>\n \u200bHowever, the resort\u2019s management plans to suspend operations for three months to facilitate the construction of 9 to 11 new rooms and other new facilities, a project scheduled to run from October 2026 through January 2027. The closure is intended to speed up construction and avoid disturbing any paying in-house guests.<\/p>\n \u200bRuspita added that the temporary suspension of operations could reduce Karangasem\u2019s local tourism revenue by Rp 6 billion. “Now, our collective task is to figure out how to compensate for that potential loss. If we lose Rp 6 billion, but can generate Rp 10 billion in revenue from other potential sources, that would be a positive outcome,” explained Ruspita.<\/p>\n \u200b<\/em>According to Ruspita, the planned closure warrants serious attention, especially as the local government strives to increase its locally generated tax revenues (PAD). Special Committee I (Pansus I) <\/em>will coordinate with the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD)<\/em> to find breakthroughs that would allow other sectors to offset the affected revenue potential.<\/p>\n \u200b”We shouldn’t rely on just one sector; the focus now must be on tapping into the potential of other sectors,” Ruspita stated.<\/p>\n \u200bMeanwhile, the Head of the Karangasem BPKAD<\/em>, I Nyoman Siki Ngurah, explained that the local government has prepared concrete steps to anticipate the impact of the Resort\u2019s temporary closure.
