{"id":1201,"date":"2026-10-10T08:44:20","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T08:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wlbrs-catalog.ru\/?p=1201"},"modified":"2026-10-10T08:44:20","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T08:44:21","slug":"kampung-sindu-bali-where-muslims-embrace-their-bal-hindu-neighbors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wlbrs-catalog.ru\/?p=1201","title":{"rendered":"Kampung Sindu, Bali \u2013 Where Muslims Embrace their Bal-Hindu Neighbors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/kampung-sindu-bali-where-muslims-embrace-their-bal-hindu-neighbors-b653c6c.webp\" alt=\"Kampung Sindu, Bali &ndash; Where Muslims Embrace their Bal-Hindu Neighbors\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where Muslim Residents Join in Carrying the <em>*Tragtag*<\/em> and <em>*Bade*<\/em> in Keramas<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<em>BeritaBali<\/em> recently described a scene from Keramas Village in Gianyar Regency, Bali, that perfectly epitomizes the religious tolerance championed by the Indonesian State Philosophy of Pancasila.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bThis story unfolded on Sunday, 04 October 2026, at a <em>\u201cngaben\u201d<\/em> (cremation) or <em>\u201cplebon\u201d ceremony<\/em> held for the late Gusti Agung Made Sita in Keramas Village, Blahbatuh District, Gianyar Regency, Bali.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/kampung-sindu-bali-where-muslims-embrace-their-bal-hindu-neighbors-b424f3a.jpg\" alt=\"Kampung Sindu, Bali &ndash; Where Muslims Embrace their Bal-Hindu Neighbors\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/kampung-sindu-bali-where-muslims-embrace-their-bal-hindu-neighbors-179a22e.jpg\" alt=\"Kampung Sindu, Bali &ndash; Where Muslims Embrace their Bal-Hindu Neighbors\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bAmid a deeply Balinese-Hindu rite-of-passage ritual, Muslim residents of <em>Kampung Sindu<\/em> stood shoulder-by-shoulder with the local community. Muslims and Hindus walked together in a <em>\u201cpelebon\u201d<\/em> procession, which moved from the <em>Puri Saren Kauh Palace<\/em> to the nearby <em>\u201cSetra\u201d<\/em> (cemetery\/cremation ground).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bThe Muslim residents of Kampung Sindu joined their Hindu neighbors in carrying the <em>\u201ctragtag\u201d<\/em>\u2014a bamboo ladder used to raise and lower a body onto a waiting <em>\u201c<\/em>bade\u201d (cremation tower). In the accompanying photograph, the Muslim members serving as <em>\u201ctragtag<\/em>\u201d bearers are distinguished by the traditional pillbox-like <em>\u201cpeci\u201d<\/em> headcoverings worn by Muslim men in Indonesia. This mutual assistance, or \u201cgotong royong,\u201d exemplifies the strong interfaith social bonds existing among the Muslims and Hindus living in Keramas Village.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bA prominent Keramas resident, Gusti Agung Dharmada, explained that the Kampung Sindu Muslim Community&#8217;s participation in the burial of their friend and neighbor, Gusti Agung Made Sita, is part of a long-standing tradition of religious tolerance and mutual respect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b&#8221;The close relationship between the Muslim residents of Kampung Sindu and the Puri Keramas Palace is nothing new; it is a tradition that has been firmly woven dating from 1856,&#8221; said Gusti Agung Dharmada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bThis relationship has deep historical roots. Centuries ago, six heads of families\u2014the ancestors of the modern-day residents of Kampung Sindu\u2014accompanied a nobleman as \u201csecurity\u201d on a journey from the <em>\u201cPuri\u201d (palace)<\/em> of Ida I Gusti Agung Made Moning in Lombok, traveling to Keramas, Gianyar, Bali.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bAs a gesture of appreciation, patronage, and familial bonding, the <em>\u201cPuri\u201d<\/em> in Keramas granted each Muslim escort a plot of land <em>(\u201dcatu\u201d<\/em>) measuring 30 <em>are<\/em> (3,000 square meters). The <em>Puri<\/em> also established a place of worship\u2014a <em>\u201clanggar\u201d<\/em> (small mosque)\u2014for the Muslim residents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bThat place of worship later evolved into one of Bali&#8217;s oldest mosques. To this day, that legacy remains an integral part of the lasting social ties between the Muslim residents of Kampung Sindu and the present-day extended <em>Royal Family of Puri Keramas.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u200b<\/em>This ancient relationship continues to be nurtured through shared participation in traditional and religious activities in Keramas Village. The Muslim residents of Kampung Sindu proudly participate actively whenever the <em>Puri Keramas Palace<\/em> conducts traditional events or religious ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bFor the local community, this relationship extends beyond mere participation in events; it has blossomed into a familial bond that spans generations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b&#8221;Our relationship with the Muslim residents involves mutual invitations whenever the Palace or the village community holds a traditional event,&#8221;&nbsp; Gusti Agung Dharmada explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bThe wholehearted involvement of Kampung Sindu\u2019s Muslim residents in the <em>*pelebon*<\/em> (cremation) procession recently held in Keramas demonstrates how the tradition of <em>*gotong royong<\/em>* (cooperation) and social ties can create a space where people of different faiths happily come together.
